Kia ora Whānau
We are now at the end of Week 5 and quickly approaching benchmark exams which will take place in Week 8 and 9 for all Year 11 – 13 students. Please refer to the previous communication you received from Mr. Fifita about these. At the start of the term, the message to the boys was that this term is about needing to ‘train how we play’. Unless we prepare for these benchmark exams and experience the conditions of an exam, we won't receive appropriate feedback from our teachers to adjust our study techniques and approach for the end of year exams. I continue to encourage you to reach out to your child's whānau teacher or Dean if you would like to discuss their progress. Whānau and school relationship and communication are so important to support our young people.
It has been a pleasure to acknowledge the many sporting achievements across a range of codes as the winter season comes to a close. A special thank you to all the parent support across all the different teams. Without your support in coaching, managing and assisting with teams, we would struggle to offer these opportunities to our students. We look forward to many of our students representing the school during Winter Tournament week that takes place in various locations across the country during Week 7.
As mentioned in my previous update, Mr. Wilson’s finished up with us this week. We are pleased to have Mr. Grant Johnston join us in the Alternative Education Teacher Aid role. Mr. Johnston is an Old Boy of the school and is going to do a great job in this space.
In other staffing news, Kirsty Sheaf (Rectors PA) begins her maternity leave at the end of this week. We wish her all the best as she gets set to welcome the next addition to the Sheaf whānau. Sanette Zylstra has begun this week as she gets set to cover this maternity leave. It is great to have Sanette onboard during this time.
